We write to inform you that yesterday the U.S. State Department issued a Travel Warning that discourages unnecessary travel in parts of Mexico. The Travel Warning specifically discourages travel to parts of the Durango, Coahuila and Chihuahua states and warns of a wave of crime and violence throughout Mexico specifically tied to conflict with and among drug cartels. We encourage students to review this warning before traveling to Mexico and to review the additional information found at the Department of State website:
The upcoming spring quarter break commonly provides an opportunity for students to engage in a range of positive activities, ranging from community service projects to international travel. As always, we encourage students to engage in these activities in a safe, responsible and informed manner.
Community service... yeah that's totally why college students go to Mexico over spring break...
