On this week's quiz my students had to find the average height between 5'6" and 5'10". Many seem to have needed to convert these heights to 66" and 70", then add them together and divide by two to get 68", which is 5'8". I know I have a talent for math, but I thought this would be a no-brainer, no-pencil-pushing kind of question. All I wanted to know was that they understood what an additive allele was, not how good their arithmetic was.
