Ha. The gauge for the next pattern I want to make is 18 stitches and 24 rows in 4". On 4.5 mm needles I get 19 stitches and 26 rows in 4". On 5 mm needles I get 17 stitches and 22 rows in 4". I guess my knitting is well-proportioned, at least. I prefer the sturdier, less see-through fabric that I get with the 4.5 mm needles. I think I will knit it with those, but follow the pattern for a 38" bust, in hopes of arriving at a 36" bust. It appears possible but unlikely that I will run out of yarn that way.

Taking the socks to Tahoe renewed my motivation to work on them, and now they're the length of normal socks. I have some yarn left, and it is so pretty. I don't think I have enough yarn or patience to do double length cuffs that you fold over. I've started calf increases, and I'll see where they take me.

In news more interesting to non-knitters, our lab has plans to go to a meeting in France in the fall of next year!

Edit: I did some math (this probably means complete failure despite all logic) and I think I can get a 36" bust with a little room to breathe if I split the difference between the 38" pattern and 40" pattern.
